Coventry’s Poet Laureate Unveils Transformed Library at Cardinal Wiseman Catholic School
Coventry’s Poet Laureate, John Bernard, recently returned to Cardinal Wiseman Catholic School to unveil its newly transformed library. The school, part of the Romero Catholic Academy, celebrated the official opening of the library following a substantial £70,000 investment in new books and furniture.
The library now boasts over 4,000 books, with more on the way, showcasing the Romero Catholic Academy’s significant commitment to fostering a love of reading and broadening pupils’ horizons. This inviting space will serve all year groups for lessons, extracurricular activities, focused reading sessions, and lunchtime clubs, providing ample opportunities for students to engage with literature and enhance their literacy skills.
John Bernard expressed his delight at returning to Cardinal Wiseman, a place pivotal to his own journey. He said, “It was a real privilege to come back to Cardinal Wiseman, a place that played such an important role in my own journey. Seeing the enthusiasm of the pupils, not just for reading but also for poetry and storytelling, was incredibly inspiring. The new library is a fantastic space that will encourage a love of literature and creativity for years to come.”
