Outstanding Ofsted at Sacred Heart
Read the below article on the incredible work put in by Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School, to secure their second Outstanding Ofsted rating. We are incredibly proud of all our staff and children for their hard work.
Romero Pupils raise £3,500 to help vulnerable
Children from Corpus Christi, Good Shepherd, Sacred Heart, St Gregory’s, St John Fisher, St Patrick’s and Ss Peter and Paul presented £3,640 as well as items of clothing, food and toiletries to vital charities across Coventry .
Some of the charities included Coventry Cyrenians, YMCA Coventry and Warwickshire , Grub ‘n’ Gab, Coventry Jesus Centre and Walsgrave Baptist Church.
The children organised things such as bake-off events and coffee mornings, movie nights and discos to raise the funds. The children also co-ordinated appeals for donations.
At the beginning of the year our school councils received training on how to turn ideas into projects and were then set a fundraising challenge.
Lisa Carroll, from YMCA Coventry and Warwickshire, said: “We’re really grateful to the academy for their generous donation. We currently have nine children under the age of ten living in our centres who would otherwise be homeless, so seeing schools help other local young people has a really nice synergy.
“Making connections like this is crucial for us and going forward we will be visiting some of the schools across the academy to educate the children about the support we provide to local young people.”
Pauline Finn, vice principal of St John Fisher Catholic Primary School, said: “It was excellent to come together and celebrate the achievements of our children from across the academy.
“Members of the school councils were given training where they learned about the importance of communication, presenting ideas and how to achieve more by working together.
“They have since been working hard to put all of these skills into practice to fundraise for our chosen charities which all help the local community, particularly the homeless and those in need. They were tasked with being as imaginative as possible and came up with some brilliant ideas.
“We would like to thank Councillor Ram Lakha as well as the charity representatives who came along to the celebration where we were able to present our donations and hear more about the fantastic work they are doing across the city.”
Well done to all involved!

Pupils at Ss Peter & Paul collect coats to donate to less fortunate
Children at Ss Peter & Paul Catholic Primary School launched a Coats for Christmas appeal to help struggling families and individuals this winter.
The school are collecting good quality coats for adults and children until the end of January. These will be donated to Walsgrave Baptist Church and the local foodbank.
The learning mentor at Ss Peter & Paul, Stephanie Gordon, said “The children wanted to do something to make a difference in their community this Christmas, so came up with the idea of collecting coats for those in need. We have a very strong focus on social action at the school, and all of the children have been really enthusiastic about the campaign and helping those less fortunate than themselves. It is also a good educational initiative as we have been able to teach the children more about local issues affecting our community. We have already received lots of donations from parents and staff, but we would now like to hear from members of the wider community who may also be able to lend their support. Everyone who makes a donation can be sure that the coats will be going to homes this winter.”
Donations are welcomed at the school reception on Arkle Drive, Walsgrave, Coventry.

New sensory room opens at St Patrick’s Primary School
A new sensory room which will support some of the most vulnerable children at a Coventry school and act as a lasting legacy to a well-known construction worker has been officially opened.
A special event was held at St Patrick’s Primary School to mark the completion of two extensions built by Coventry-based Deeley Construction.
The sensory room has been named after Martin Curtin, who worked for The Deeley Group for 58 years, and passed away in December last year at the age of 86.
The event also marked the completion of an expansion to the staff room, providing teachers with a dedicated workspace to plan lessons.
The school, which is part of the Romero Catholic Academy, and Deeley Construction welcomed members of Martin’s family for the sensory room’s official opening where they were able to take a look at the space, hear more about what it will be used for and enjoy tea and cake.
Deeley Construction completed the work after Peter Deeley visited the school to hear more about its needs. The firm worked with a number of local contractors to complete the build at a highly reduced cost, with all of the work taking place during the summer break.
Andrea Sherratt, Principal at St Patrick’s Primary School, said: “We are absolutely thrilled with our two extensions which wouldn’t have been possible without support from The Deeley Group.
“We had a very tight budget, but Peter Deeley and the company have the community at heart and wanted to help the school andsupport the children, so offered to complete the work below cost.
“Deeley also ensured that all of the work was done throughout the school holidays so it did not cause any disruption to the children’s learning.
“It is an honour to name our sensory room after Martin Curtin, a lot of people in Coventry knew him and our new room will be a lasting legacy. The room is a blank canvas and will be used to provide additional support to some of our most vulnerable children.
“It was excellent to welcome Peter and others involved in the project as well as members of Martin’s family for the official opening.”
Peter Deeley added: “I was delighted to support St Patrick’s Primary School with this project, leaving a legacy in the community which will support children for years to come.
“Martin was one of our finest employees who worked as one of our senior site managers for many years, and it is wonderful that the new sensory room has been named in his honour. It is also good to hear that teachers are already putting their new workspace to good use.”
